When you hear aviation, you think about traveling, connecting people all over the world, exploring new cultures and ethnicities and learning about diversity.
But the backstage isn't that bright as it seems. The Aviation industry's an old white male dominated business. Only 3% of the CEO's chairs are -or were- taken by females. So, when we heard about Siza Mzimela, who's not only the first female CEO, but as the first female who launched an airline, and first Female executive member of IATA's Board of governors, we had to tell her story to the world.
First, she broke the boys club. Then, she defied old stigmas in South Africa as a black woman getting to the top of the chain, worldwide, reflecting the diversity of the black experience.
The film, told through the eyes of a young girl, sees Siza Mzimela narrate her story and how her personal story parallels that of her journey in aviation. Through empowering insights, significant key moments and the wisdom gained through her experience, we reveal how South African Airways is making more of Africa accessible to Africans.
In THE UNKNOWN's film, the young girl isn’t solely a figurative representation of Ms Mzimela. She’s simultaneously presented as a metaphor for growth and the potential of all young Africans, and an empowerment rallying cry for women all over the world.
Siza Mzimela was listed as one of the most powerful women in the world by Forbes magazine.
